Yakubu Commends Lookman’s Dedication to Atalanta Amid Transfer Speculations
Yakubu Aiyegbeni, the former striker of the Super Eagles, has expressed admiration for Ademola Lookman‘s decision to stay loyal to Atalanta despite the recent transfer uncertainties.
During the summer transfer window, the Nigerian winger was reportedly eager to leave, which caused friction between him, the club, and its supporters. Nevertheless, Lookman put the controversy behind him by returning to the field in Atalanta’s commanding 3-0 triumph over Torino on September 21.

Yakubu’s Perspective
In an interview with Footy-Africa, Yakubu lauded both Lookman and Atalanta for their mature handling of the situation.
“Players often face emotional challenges when anticipated transfers fall through. It can be mentally taxing. However, I admire Lookman’s patience and Atalanta’s willingness to reinstate him,” Yakubu remarked. He added.
“What truly matters is that he’s back competing on the field, where he excels at influencing games and finding the back of the net.”
Having represented Nigeria in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Yakubu emphasized that Lookman’s prospects remain promising if he maintains his concentration.
“Atalanta relies on his talents, and he depends on the club to advance his career. It’s encouraging to see both parties reconcile, and I hope he rediscovers his passion for football, stays committed, and delivers the high-level performances we expect from him,” Yakubu concluded.
Since joining Atalanta in 2022, Lookman has been instrumental, notably netting a hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing a memorable victory for his team.
