Chelsea, six-time champions of the English Premier League, have managed only a single victory in their last five matches across all tournaments, according to Soccernet.ng.
Under the management of Enzo Maresca, the team has also suffered the setback of receiving red cards in back-to-back Premier League fixtures, a situation that has drawn criticism from former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
The ex-AFCON champion has been outspoken about the Blues’ urgent requirement for a new goalkeeper and the need for seasoned leadership to mentor a relatively youthful squad towards success.

The Blues’ latest defeat occurred last Saturday despite initially taking the lead against Brighton and Hove Albion. Trevor Chalobah’s reckless tackle in the 53rd minute resulted in a red card, leaving Chelsea a man down.
Substitute Danny Welbeck turned the tide by netting twice, with Maxim De Cuyper also contributing as Fabian Hurzeler’s side overturned the scoreline.
Mikel Explains Why Chelsea Could End the Season Without Silverware
Currently trailing Liverpool by seven points after just six league matches, the two-time UEFA Champions League winners face a challenging campaign. Mikel warned that if Chelsea maintain their current form, they risk finishing the season empty-handed.

“The root cause is inexperience. Reflecting on the match, it was yet another avoidable and foolish error,” the former Super Eagles captain shared on the Obi One Podcast.
“We’ve repeatedly emphasized the need to bolster the defense, add a reliable striker, a solid center-back, and a dependable goalkeeper. By season’s end, they might realize the mistakes made in the transfer market.
“Our defensive line isn’t strong enough to secure the Premier League title. I’ll stress that again-we’re far from competitive at the back.
“Offensively, we have the ability to score and create opportunities, but the absence of Colwill is deeply felt in defense. There’s no adequate cover for his injury.
“Our vulnerability in defense is glaring, and with Chalobah set to miss the upcoming Liverpool match, the situation worsens. Strikers win matches, but defenders win championships.
“We’re going to face difficulties. Playing with ten men puts us at a severe disadvantage. With only eight points from six games and too many red cards conceded, this is simply unacceptable,” concluded the former UEFA Europa League winner.

So far this Premier League season, Chelsea have recorded two wins, two draws, and two losses. With a demanding schedule ahead, the team must regroup quickly to improve their standing.
