Newborn Goes Viral After Being Born Holding Mother’s Failed Contraceptive Coil

Social media has erupted with reactions after photos of a newborn baby clutching the contraceptive coil that was meant to prevent his conception went viral.
The baby, named Matheus Gabriel, was delivered at Hospital Sagrado Coração de Jesus in Nerópolis, Goiás, to mother Queidy Araujo de Oliveira, who had been using an intrauterine device (IUD) for nearly two years. The copper coil is widely considered one of the most effective forms of contraception, boasting over 99 percent reliability.

According to doctors, Queidy only discovered her pregnancy during a routine medical check-up. Since attempts to remove the IUD could have endangered the pregnancy, it was left in place until delivery. Her pregnancy was fraught with complications, including bleeding and partial detachment, but she eventually gave birth to a healthy boy.

In a remarkable twist, attending doctor Natalia Rodrigues retrieved the coil moments after delivery and placed it in the newborn’s tiny hand. A photo capturing baby Matheus holding the device like a trophy quickly spread across social platforms.

The viral post was captioned: “Holding my victory trophy: the IUD that couldn’t handle me!”

The extraordinary image has since sparked conversations worldwide about contraception, pregnancy, and the unpredictability of life.
