Erling Haaland Shares Deep Reflections on Mortality and What Lies Beyond
Erling Haaland, the dynamic striker for Manchester City, has recently opened up about the profound effect that losing several loved ones has had on him. These personal tragedies have led the Norwegian forward to deeply contemplate the concept of death and the possibility of an afterlife.
Haaland’s Thoughts on Loss and Life After Death
In the past few weeks, Haaland has been grieving the loss of Ivar Eggja, a close family friend he fondly referred to as “uncle.” Eggja, aged 59, was also the best man at the wedding of Haaland’s father, Alf Inge Haaland.
This sorrowful event followed the recent passing of Haaland’s grandparents and his agent, Mino Raiola. These successive losses have deeply influenced Haaland’s perspective, prompting him to question what happens after death and whether there is a realm beyond our physical existence.
“It’s hard to fall asleep without wondering: ‘What happens when I die? Do I ascend to heaven? Am I condemned to hell? Where do I truly end up?'” Haaland revealed in an interview with Aftonbladet.

When reflecting on how he is managing the sorrow following Eggja’s passing, Haaland expressed the emotional weight it has placed on him.
“How do I process this pain? It’s overwhelming. My heart feels heavy knowing he’s gone. I can almost picture him now, full of laughter and mischief as always. We shared countless unforgettable moments,” he said.
“His spirit will stay with me forever,” the Manchester City forward added. “I spoke with him shortly before he passed. He urged me to ‘go out there and give everything on the field.’ He wanted me to live life to the fullest, even without him here. That encouragement means everything to me. He never wanted me to be burdened by grief or despair.”
