Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, have filed a lawsuit against singer Ray J, accusing him of defamation following a series of damaging allegations he has made in recent months.
According to court filings in Los Angeles, the Kardashian-Jenner duo claim Ray J — who infamously dated Kim in the early 2000s — has repeatedly made false and harmful statements about them, including claims related to the release of their notorious 2007 tape. The lawsuit alleges that his comments were made “with malice and reckless disregard for the truth,” and have harmed both women’s reputations.
Ray J, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr., has in the past accused the Kardashians of orchestrating publicity stunts around the tape and manipulating the public narrative. Kim and Kris, however, insist the allegations are fabricated and part of a long-running smear campaign.
“For more than 15 years, Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have endured damaging and false accusations,” the legal complaint states. “Defendant’s ongoing defamation campaign threatens not only their personal reputations but also their professional and business ventures.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages as well as an injunction to prevent Ray J from making further public statements about the family. Legal experts say the case could become one of the most high-profile celebrity defamation battles in recent years, given the public history between the parties.
Ray J has not yet issued a formal response to the lawsuit, but his representatives have previously maintained that he stands by his claims.
For the Kardashians, who have built a billion-dollar brand empire on reality television, endorsements, and business ventures, the stakes are high. Observers say the case is about more than personal pride — it’s about protecting their global image.
