Police Nab 2 Suspected Cultists, Recover Arms In Akwa Ibom

Officers from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have successfully dismantled a suspected cultist group, apprehending two key suspects found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and other dangerous weapons.

According to DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom Command, the arrests resulted from a targeted operation conducted during a patrol along Idoro Road in the Uyo metropolitan area.

“In a determined effort to eliminate criminal elements from Akwa Ibom State, our officers detained two individuals linked to illicit activities and seized lethal weapons in Uyo,” DSP John stated.

“In the early hours of Thursday, October 2, 2025, at approximately 12:30 AM, our patrol team intercepted two men acting suspiciously near Abolin Junction on Idoro Road, an area known for low visibility at night.”

“The suspects were identified as Joshua Benjamin from Ibiaku in Ikono Local Government Area and Kingsley Friday Michael from Ikot Ekop in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area,” she added.

The police spokesperson detailed that the items confiscated included a homemade revolving AK-47 rifle and a jackknife, among other weapons.

During questioning, the suspects were unable to justify their presence at the location during such late hours. They claimed to be security personnel but failed to produce any official uniforms, identification, or valid documentation for the firearm in their possession.

DSP John confirmed that the suspects remain in custody for further investigation and emphasized the Command’s unwavering dedication to protecting the community.

She urged citizens to stay alert and immediately report any unusual or suspicious behavior to the nearest police station to help maintain public safety.
