Agents from the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully apprehended 42 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud within Gashua local government area, Yobe State.
The arrests took place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, during a coordinated operation across multiple sites in Gashua town, prompted by reliable intelligence pointing to their involvement in cybercrime activities.
Confiscated items from the suspects included seven motorcycles, a Mercedes Benz vehicle, 55 mobile phones and laptops, along with gaming consoles such as PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PlayStation 4 (PS4).
Information gathered by the Commission connected the detainees to a range of online fraud schemes.
The anti-corruption body confirmed that the suspects will face prosecution once the ongoing investigations are finalized.
