Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has called on the citizens of Ekiti State to support the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the 2026 polls. He emphasized that renewing Oyebanji’s mandate would help build on the progress made under his leadership and maintain a governance style centered on the welfare of the people.
The appeal was made during the funeral ceremony of High Chief Mathew Okunola, father to Justice Oyebisi Omoleye of the Court of Appeal, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Ikole Ekiti on Friday.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Oyebanji as a reliable and visionary leader who has fostered peace, unity, and growth in Ekiti over the past three years. He noted that a second term would enable the governor to further implement policies that have significantly improved the lives of the state’s residents.
“I urge you all to continue backing Governor Oyebanji because his performance has been outstanding. Given another term, he will achieve even greater milestones,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
He acknowledged the challenges of governance, reminding the people that meaningful change takes time and cannot be realized overnight. “This is a monumental task that requires collective effort. Patience is essential as we work towards our goals,” he added.
Highlighting the power of prayer in advancing the state’s development, the Ondo governor described Oyebanji as a “divine gift” steering Ekiti toward prosperity.
Offering condolences to Justice Omoleye and her family, Aiyedatiwa honored the late Chief Okunola as a respected community figure whose legacy of dedication and integrity serves as an example for all.
“His exemplary life is why we are all gathered here today. For those of us still living, let us strive to make a positive impact in our respective roles, just as Governor Oyebanji is doing in Ekiti and I am in Ondo,” he remarked.
In his own tribute, Governor Oyebanji remembered Chief Okunola as a pioneering leader and a man of accomplishment, whose commitment to community advancement left a lasting mark on the Ikole Traditional Council, the Church, and society at large.
“He led a life full of meaningful contributions,” Oyebanji said, encouraging the family and the people of Ikole to find comfort in his enduring legacy.
Delivering the homily, Venerable Ajao Mathew, Vicar of St. Silas Anglican Church in Omuo Ekiti, described the deceased as a devoted servant of God and humanity, known for his wisdom and spiritual guidance.
“His counsel and encouragement were a source of strength to many within the community and beyond,” the cleric noted.
The funeral service was attended by prominent figures including Ekiti State’s Attorney General, Dayo Apata (SAN); Chief Judge Justice Lekan Ogunmoye; Head of Service Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi; alongside members of the legal fraternity.
