Lafarge Africa Launches Nigeria’s First Eco-Friendly, Ready-Mix Concrete Revolutionizing Construction

Lafarge Africa Unveils Nigeria’s First Low-carbon, Ready-mix Concrete

Lafarge Africa Plc, a frontrunner in sustainable building innovations and a prominent manufacturer of diverse cement products, has introduced EcoCrete, Nigeria’s pioneering low-carbon ready-mix concrete.

The launch event took place at Lafarge’s Ready-Mix (RMX) facility in Abuja on Wednesday. The company highlighted that EcoCrete achieves at least a 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional CEM I concrete, all while maintaining uncompromised strength, durability, and overall performance.

During the unveiling, Lafarge Africa Plc’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, emphasized that the Abuja RMX plant has been fully transitioned to produce only EcoCrete. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

“In the past year, we have launched products such as Ecoplanet Elephant and Unicem cement, each representing progress in our pursuit of excellence and environmental stewardship,” he remarked.

“Today, with the introduction of EcoCrete, our low-carbon ready-mix concrete, we are taking another decisive leap forward.”

“As part of the initial phase of this transformative initiative, the complete conversion of the Lafarge Abuja RMX plant to EcoCrete production underscores our dedication to scaling sustainable construction solutions. This move pushes the limits of innovation in the industry and aligns our operations with the values of our customers, communities, and the environment. We take pride in fostering an industry where growth and responsibility coexist harmoniously,” Alade-Akinyemi added.

In his keynote speech, Temitope Akinyemi, Special Adviser to the Honorable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on Climate Finance and Green Growth, praised Lafarge for spearheading sustainable advancements within the sector. He noted that EcoCrete’s launch is in perfect harmony with Nigeria’s Green Growth Strategy, which balances developmental priorities with environmental care. “This product launch exemplifies visionary leadership by Lafarge Africa, introducing an innovative solution that meets the demands for strength, durability, and reliability, while significantly lowering CO₂ emissions,” he stated.

Xu Gang, Vice President for International Business at Huaxin, also spoke at the event, describing EcoCrete as a fusion of global expertise and local ambition. He highlighted that the full conversion of the Abuja plant reflects Huaxin’s strong commitment to the Nigerian market and its sustainable future.
