As Nigeria commemorates its 65th year of independence, Dr. Johnson Chukwuka, a distinguished public affairs lawyer, calls on both citizens and leaders to view this anniversary not merely as a ceremonial event but as a critical moment to foster national unity and eradicate corruption.
In his message to the nation, Dr. Chukwuka emphasized that this milestone should ignite a renewed commitment to bridging societal divides, enhancing trust in leadership, and embedding transparency and responsibility in governance.
“When our ancestors achieved self-rule 65 years ago, it symbolized more than just a change of flags. It was a profound pledge that Nigeria would forge its own destiny grounded in justice, prosperity, and solidarity,” he reflected.
While recognizing that Nigeria has yet to fully realize its aspirations, he urged against surrendering to pessimism, highlighting that the country’s strength is rooted in the unwavering spirit of its people to surmount challenges.
He remarked, “Each act of integrity, every rejection of corruption, and the daily efforts of Nigerians supporting one another and innovating under difficult circumstances reaffirm the core principles that define our nation.”
Dr. Chukwuka also honored the dedication of everyday Nigerians-farmers, merchants, professionals, and public servants-who, despite economic difficulties and security concerns, continue to drive the country’s advancement.
“Let this Independence Day rekindle our collective hope, fortify our unity, and remind us that Nigeria’s destiny lies in our hands. United, we can achieve greatness. United, we will prevail. Together, this nation will flourish in our lifetime,” he concluded.
In a parallel statement, Oluwaseun Ayeni, National Convener of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Crusade Organisation (ABATCO), expressed optimism about Nigeria’s trajectory toward greatness.
Marking the 65th Independence Anniversary, Ayeni described Nigeria as a symbol of endurance, strength, and divine favor, emphasizing that the occasion is not only a celebration of history but also a moment for introspection, revitalizing national spirit, and inspiring hope for a prosperous future.
He acknowledged Nigeria’s journey through trials and triumphs, noting that despite facing numerous challenges, the nation has been buoyed by hope and resilience.
Ayeni urged Nigerians to stay united, connected by a shared destiny and sustained by confidence in the country’s potential.
“This day calls us not only to remember our past but to renew our dedication to building a nation that honors the vision of our founding fathers and meets the hopes of generations to come,” he stated.
He further highlighted the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, noting that since taking office amid significant national challenges, the President has shown boldness, resolve, and a clear vision to guide Nigeria toward progress.
“President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda transcends mere rhetoric; it represents a courageous commitment to revitalize the economy, restore national dignity, and redefine Nigeria’s role as Africa’s powerhouse,” Ayeni added.
