Zulum Announces Bold Plan to Deploy Troops Along Nigeria-Cameroon Border Town Amid Rising Insurgency

Insurgency: Plan underway to deploy troops around Nigeria/Cameroon border town - Zulum

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has disclosed plans to bolster security measures in Kirawa town, located in the Gwoza local government area, by deploying additional security forces and establishing a new Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) outpost. This initiative aims to strengthen surveillance and ensure swift response to threats in the region.

Earlier reports highlighted a recent attack by insurgents on Kirawa, a border community, resulting in the deaths of two residents and the abduction of several others. Governor Zulum made the announcement during a visit to the affected area, where he assessed the impact of the violent assault.

Expressing profound sympathy for the victims and condemning the attack unequivocally, the governor emphasized the urgency of enhancing security infrastructure. In addition to the security upgrades, he approved the immediate commencement of constructing a new hospital, water supply systems, and other vital amenities to improve living conditions for the people of Kirawa.

Governor Zulum reassured the community of his administration’s unwavering dedication to their protection and welfare. Accompanying him on the road trip to Kirawa were Brigadier General N. I. Abdullahi, commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade, alongside members of the State and National Assembly and other senior officials.

Furthermore, the governor urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to intensify their military operations across Borno State to prevent insurgents from regaining lost ground. He stressed that a lull in military activities had contributed to the resurgence of violence and called for sustained and vigorous security efforts.

“I appeal to the Nigerian Armed Forces to renew their commitment. The absence of consistent military operations in Borno has facilitated the insurgency’s comeback. It is crucial that we maintain continuous military engagement to secure lasting peace,” Zulum stated.
