President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians, especially those residing in Plateau State, to foster peace and embrace religious tolerance, encouraging a spirit of mutual respect and unity among all communities.

During the funeral service of the late Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, held at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos over the weekend, the President emphasized that Nigeria’s strength lies in the harmonious coexistence of its diverse ethnic and religious groups. He stressed that animosity should never be an option, sharing a personal example of religious acceptance within his own family.

“I was raised in the Islamic faith, while my wife serves as a pastor. She prays for me, and I have never sought to change her beliefs. Our love for one another stems from serving the same God,” President Tinubu remarked.

He paid tribute to the late Nana Lydia, highlighting her life as a beacon of faith, peace, and dedication to humanity, describing her as a nurturing mother who instilled the fear of God in her children.

Rev. Mudimka Seri, delivering the sermon based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 9-12 under the theme “Time,” reminded attendees-including politicians, religious leaders, and citizens-that time is a sacred gift from God, meant to be used wisely in service to both the divine and fellow human beings.

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC National Chairman, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who supported his family during their time of loss. He fondly recalled his mother’s unwavering strength and determination, noting how she overcame health challenges to ensure her children received quality education. “She encouraged me to uphold the trust placed in me by the President,” he shared.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State thanked President Tinubu for honoring the state with his presence despite a demanding schedule. He lauded the First Family for their ongoing support and invited the President to revisit Plateau to witness firsthand the progress of projects aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Our government is making strides in transforming agriculture and other sectors. The Tin City buses are just the beginning. Nonetheless, we continue to face security challenges and earnestly seek your sustained assistance to address them,” Governor Mutfwang appealed.

Representing the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described Nana Lydia as a devoted spouse and affectionate mother whose life serves as an inspiring example. He offered prayers for her eternal rest.

The funeral was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President’s Chief of Staff, several former and current Governors, Ministers, Deputy Governors, and members of both National and State Assemblies.

Following the service, Nana Lydia Yilwatda was laid to rest in Dungung, Ampang East, within Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.
