Sha’Carri Richardson, the standout American sprinter, has opted to end her 2025 campaign prematurely by withdrawing from the upcoming ATHLOS competition in New York City.

Following a year marked by both triumphs and trials, Richardson announced she will forgo participation in the ATHLOS track meet held in New York. Instead, she intends to engage with her supporters through an exclusive fan interaction event.

The athlete revealed this news through a post on Instagram, which included a promotional flyer for the fan gathering. She did not disclose specific reasons behind her decision to skip the races.

“Although I won’t be competing, I’m thrilled to meet and celebrate with our incredible track community! Come join me at the Fan Zone Plaza for an inspiring evening honoring women’s excellence in athletics! Looking forward to seeing everyone! @athlos,” Richardson shared.

Earlier this year, in April, Richardson was named alongside Tara Davis-Woodhall and Gabby Thomas as advisory owners for the ATHLOS league, which is slated to debut in 2026.

“Gabby, Sha’Carri, and Tara represent the new generation of athletes elevating the sport to unprecedented levels, deserving both recognition and equitable rewards for their leadership,” said ATHLOS founder Alexis Ohanian.

“Our vision was to include them as founding owners to build a league that genuinely reflects athletes’ voices,” he added.

The 25-year-old sprinter was unable to defend her world champion status in Tokyo, finishing fifth in the 100m final. Her teammate and training partner, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, secured gold with a championship record time of 10.61 seconds.

Despite this, Richardson played a crucial role as the anchor in the women’s 4x100m relay, helping Team USA, alongside Jefferson-Wooden, Twanisha “Tee Tee” Terry, and Kayla White, clinch their third consecutive world title in the event.

Throughout 2025, Richardson encountered several obstacles, including injuries, public scrutiny stemming from domestic violence allegations involving her boyfriend Christian Coleman, and a decline in her competitive edge, which ultimately cost her the crown as the fastest woman alive.

Despite these hurdles, Richardson showcased remarkable determination with a solid showing on the global stage. As she closes the door on her 2025 season, she is gearing up to come back revitalized next year, with ambitions to reclaim her position as the world’s leading female sprinter.
