In Mahikeng, South Africa, authorities are investigating a harrowing case where a 25-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother using a garden shovel.
The incident took place at their home on the afternoon of Sunday, October 5, 2025.
According to eyewitness accounts, the young man viciously attacked his 48-year-old mother with the shovel.
Witnesses described the assault as relentless and brutal, continuing even after the woman had lost consciousness.
A nearby neighbor, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and found the man still assaulting the lifeless woman.
In an attempt to stop the attack, the neighbor fired a gunshot, which resulted in the immediate death of the assailant.
Police arrived shortly thereafter and discovered both the mother and son deceased at the location.
An official homicide investigation has been initiated regarding the mother’s death.
The neighbor who intervened by discharging the firearm is currently being questioned by law enforcement.
