Israel halts another Gaza aid flotilla as MEPs demand activists’ release

A new fleet of ships has been stopped in international waters, while at least seven individuals from a previous flotilla remain in custody.

The Israeli navy has intercepted a humanitarian convoy heading to Gaza, which sought to challenge Israel’s maritime blockade. This action follows the recent detention of activists from an earlier flotilla, an event that sparked global condemnation and large-scale demonstrations.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza reported that nine sailing vessels, bearing Italian and French flags, along with a motor vessel registered in Timor-Leste, were intercepted and boarded starting at 4:34 a.m. on Wednesday. The interception took place approximately 120 nautical miles off Gaza’s coastline, in international waters.
