Optimism grows for Gaza peace deal as top US, Qatari and Turkish officials join talks

US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Qatar’s Prime Minister, and Turkey’s intelligence chief meet in Egypt

High-level officials from the United States, Qatar, and Turkey have come together in Egypt on the third day of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, sparking cautious optimism that a lasting ceasefire could soon be established to bring an end to the protracted two-year Gaza conflict.

Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy for Middle Eastern affairs, accompanied by Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh, the designated site for the peace discussions. They were joined by Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Ibrahim Kalin, head of Turkish intelligence, all convening at the Egyptian resort city to facilitate the ongoing dialogue.
