Acclaimed American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift recently addressed circulating rumors that she felt envious of her close friend Selena Gomez tying the knot before her.
These whispers emerged following Gomez’s private wedding to music producer Benny Blanco in late September, an event where Swift was among the invited guests. After the celebration, gossip suggested that Swift jokingly commented on Gomez “getting married ahead of her” during her speech.
However, in a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Swift dispelled these claims. She explained that her remarks at the wedding were a nostalgic nod to their early friendship, especially recalling their fashion choices, rather than any reference to her own engagement.
“I made sure not to mention anything about my engagement,” Swift clarified, highlighting her sincere joy in honoring Gomez’s milestone.
“I lightheartedly teased about our 2008 wardrobe-the daring V-neck tops and colorful skinny jeans era,” she laughed. “But the heart of my speech was celebrating her happiness and reflecting on how inspiring it’s been to watch her growth. It was never about me.”
Swift also revealed why she hadn’t shared news of her engagement to Travis Kelce with longtime friend Ed Sheeran, explaining that the British musician “rarely uses a phone” and can only be contacted through email or FaceTime.
