President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to approve Idris Olorunnimbe as the new chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), while Dr. Aminu Wada is set to continue serving as the executive vice chairman and chief executive officer.
This nomination was presented in a letter read aloud by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the plenary session on Wednesday.
Alongside Olorunnimbe’s nomination, the letter also proposed several other appointments to the NCC Board, including Abraham Oshidami as executive commissioner for technical services, Rimini Makama as executive commissioner for stakeholder management, Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (retired), Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, and Oforitsenere Emiko as board members.
The President emphasized that these appointments are part of a broader strategy to strengthen and modernize critical communication and regulatory bodies to enhance their efficiency and service delivery.

Additionally, the President forwarded the nomination of Keji Onwu as an independent director to the Board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), along with candidates for the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).
Following the reading of these letters, Senate President Akpabio assigned the relevant committees to conduct thorough screenings and submit their reports. He specifically instructed the INEC Committee to finalize its review within one week.
