Zenith Bank/Delta Principals’ Cup: Semifinals Take Centre Stage In Ozoro, Ughelli

Today, 9 October, marks the semifinals of the 2025 Zenith Bank/Delta Principals Cup football tournament, taking place simultaneously at two distinct locations.

Since its kickoff on 18 September in Asaba, this prestigious annual event has seen over 1,000 secondary schools compete, with only four teams now remaining to battle for the championship.
Representing Warri South Local Government, Ogbe Ijoh Grammar School has advanced to the semifinals and will challenge Justice, Peace and Success Secondary School, the contender from Aniocha South Local Government Area. Their encounter is set to unfold at Notre Dame College, Ozoro.
In the other semifinal fixture, Otokutu Grammar School from Ughelli South will face off against Urhobo College, Effurun, the team representing Uvwie Local Government, at Government College, Ughelli.
These semifinalists earned their spots by excelling through the preliminary rounds and zonal qualifiers held at multiple venues, followed by the quarterfinals conducted on Tuesday across four centers throughout the state.

Tony Pemu, CEO of Hideaplus-the organization behind this youth-focused football competition-shared insights with our reporter, highlighting the exceptional quality of play witnessed this year.

“The zonal and quarterfinal stages have delivered matches that rival finals in terms of skill and talent on display. We expect the semifinals to raise the bar even higher, setting the stage for a thrilling final scheduled for 16 October in Asaba,” Pemu remarked.

To date, scouts have identified 64 standout players who show promise for advancing their football careers to higher levels.

Among the notable talents are Salah James, Divine Efenudi, Oghenevwere Johnson, Young Jeffrey, Ojobo Rejoice, Okiki Victor, Nwori Ifeanyi, Eze Destiny, and Evans Faith.

The victors of today’s semifinal clashes will earn the right to compete in the grand finale of the eighth edition of this tournament, which will be held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
