Eguavoen Speaks Out: Responds to Rumors of Taking Charge as Super Eagles Head Coach

Eguavoen reacts to reports of him taking over as coach of the Super Eagles

Augustine Eguavoen has addressed rumors linking him to the head coach position of the Super Eagles.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director has firmly denied circulating reports that he, alongside Ladan Bosso, is being considered to replace the current Super Eagles coach ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Contrary to recent claims by ScoreNigeria suggesting that Eguavoen and Bosso might take over if Nigeria fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Eguavoen clarified that no such discussions or plans have taken place. He emphasized that these stories are misleading and unfounded.

Having previously served as the Super Eagles’ head coach on several occasions, Eguavoen reiterated his dedication to his existing role within the NFF’s technical framework. He made it clear that he is not pursuing a return to coaching the national team. “It is disappointing to see these baseless rumors spreading. I have not been contacted about any coaching position, and my focus remains on advancing football development across Nigeria,” he stated.

These remarks dispel the speculation and highlight Eguavoen’s commitment to his administrative and developmental responsibilities rather than stepping back into a coaching role. Meanwhile, Eric Chelle continues to lead the Super Eagles as they push forward in their World Cup qualification journey.
