Gusau Lays Out His Mission In FIFA Committee

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, MON, who currently presides over both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B), has recently been appointed to the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee by the world football governing body, FIFA. He is dedicated to making meaningful and impactful contributions in this esteemed capacity.

Expressing his gratitude, Gusau remarked, “This role is a tremendous privilege, and I am committed to honoring the confidence the FIFA Council has placed in me and my colleagues. My goal is to advance the interests of Nigerian football, West African football, and the wider African football fraternity through this platform.”

He highlighted his plan to utilize his vast experience to foster vibrant and inclusive dialogues within the committee, ensuring decisions are well-informed and strategic. “With my leadership background at the NFF, WAFU-B, and my tenure as a regional president on the CAF Executive Committee, I am well-equipped to provide insightful perspectives on African football. This will empower me to effectively advocate for the continent’s priorities on the international stage,” he explained.

Gusau’s appointment, alongside other Nigerian football administrators, underscores Nigeria’s growing prominence and influence in the global football arena. This opportunity serves as a strategic avenue to further enhance the nation’s standing through proactive leadership and engagement.

“I look forward to collaborating closely with the committee chair and fellow members to shape policies that will define the future of men’s club football worldwide. Our collective efforts can significantly boost football economies, particularly in countries where the sport is still developing, as club football remains the cornerstone of growth everywhere,” Gusau added.

The FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee is led by Chairperson Jassim Rashid Al Buenain from Qatar, with Mikel Arriola of Mexico acting as the deputy chair.

In other notable appointments, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, OFR, ROI, former NFF President and ex-FIFA Council member, was named Deputy Chair of the FIFA Men’s National Team Competitions Committee, chaired by Robert Harrison of Paraguay.

Furthermore, Aisha Falode, a member of the NFF Executive Committee, earned a seat on the FIFA Media & Communications Committee, which is headed by Yacine Idriss Diallo, President of the Ivorian Football Association. Meanwhile, A. U. Mustapha (SAN), former President of the CAF Appeal Board, was appointed to the FIFA Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Committee, under the leadership of Ghanaian FA President and CAF 2nd Vice President, Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku.

Justice Ayotunde Phillips, the former Chief Judge of Lagos State, continues her vital role as a member of the FIFA Ethics Committee (Adjudicatory Council), upholding the principles of fairness and integrity within the sport.
