Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, the Customs Area Controller overseeing the Oyo/Osun Area Command, recently conducted goodwill visits to three distinguished traditional rulers in Oyo State: the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; the Soun of Ogbomoso land, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye; and the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao. These visits aimed to enhance community relations and foster stronger collaboration.
According to a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I Abdulmalik Akintola, and shared on the official Nigeria Customs Service Facebook page on Saturday, the meetings held on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, are part of Comptroller Aliyu’s continuous initiative to build synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and local communities. This partnership is crucial for advancing trade facilitation, boosting revenue, and combating smuggling activities.
During the discussions, Comptroller Aliyu praised the monarchs for their essential contributions to sustaining peace, unity, and social harmony within their territories. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Customs Service and traditional leaders in fulfilling the agency’s primary objectives.
He also urged the monarchs to persist in educating their communities about the dangers of smuggling and other illicit economic activities, emphasizing that such illegal trade poses significant threats to national security and economic development.
In response, each monarch expressed their unwavering commitment to support the Nigeria Customs Service. They commended Comptroller Aliyu’s leadership and his proactive approach to engaging with host communities, which has strengthened the bond between the Service and the people.
These visits reaffirm the dedication of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, under Comptroller Aliyu’s stewardship, to nurturing mutual respect, community partnerships, and active stakeholder involvement in executing its statutory responsibilities.
