A shocking event took place at a well-known car wash in Asaba, Delta State, when a recently hired employee allegedly absconded with a customer’s luxury vehicle valued at ₦38 million.
Witnesses report that the incident happened when a young entrepreneur arrived to have his high-end car cleaned. Following standard procedure, he handed over his car keys to one of the attendants-unaware that this particular worker had only been on the job for three days.
Instead of properly washing the vehicle, the attendant is said to have climbed into the driver’s seat under the pretense of reversing the car, only to speed away and vanish without leaving any clues behind.
The stolen car, which reportedly lacked any tracking device, remains missing at the time of this update. Authorities have since detained the car wash owner for further investigation.
The individual who recounted the story cautioned vehicle owners against entrusting their keys to attendants, emphasizing that similar thefts have occurred multiple times in Asaba.
He also urged business proprietors to conduct thorough background checks on new hires, sharing his own experience of losing two iPhones to a freshly employed shop assistant who disappeared with the devices within minutes.
“This kind of thing has happened many times in Asaba,” he remarked. “If you go to a car wash, don’t hand over your keys. Keep your keys with you. Some of these people, you don’t even know where they come from.”
