A diverse alliance of former deputy governors from various political and regional sectors across Nigeria has publicly declared its robust support for President Bola Tinubu and the strategic direction of his government.
The Former Deputy Governors Forum of Nigeria (FDGFN) has officially endorsed the Tinubu administration, applauding the federal government for integrating several economic policy recommendations initially proposed by the forum.
During the launch of the forum’s new secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Dr. Chris Akomas, FDGFN’s national chairman and former deputy governor of Abia State, commended the administration’s receptiveness to expert advice and its commitment to driving meaningful reforms.
Akomas highlighted that many of the forum’s key suggestions from its recent national conference-focused on pressing issues such as inflation management, foreign currency stabilization, job creation, and optimizing government expenditure-have been adopted into the current policy framework.
“At last year’s conference, we delved deeply into Nigeria’s economic challenges, analyzed the environment, and proposed actionable strategies. It is encouraging to see many of these ideas being embraced and implemented,” he stated.
He emphasized that the forum’s establishment is motivated by a shared ambition to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development by leveraging the extensive leadership experience of its members.
“Our primary objective is nation-building. We believe Nigeria is on a promising path forward. With sound leadership and carefully designed policies, the country can realize its full potential-not just for today, but for future generations,” Akomas added.
The inauguration of the new secretariat, located in the heart of Abuja, represents a milestone for the forum, which was founded in 2010. This modern facility also hosts the Polish-Nigerian Business Council and features conference rooms, a boardroom, an auditorium, and exhibition areas.
“We have evolved from a modest office in Garki to this dedicated center, which now serves as a permanent venue for collaboration, research, policy dialogue, and national advancement,” Akomas remarked.
Senator Aliyu Wamakko, former deputy governor and governor of Sokoto State, who graced the event as Special Guest of Honour, praised the forum’s contribution to strengthening democratic values and fostering unity across the nation.
“This forum rises above ethnic, religious, and political divides. It exemplifies the kind of leadership Nigeria needs-one that unites and inspires,” Wamakko said.
“By sharing knowledge and constructively holding leaders accountable, the forum elevates governance standards.”
Dame Pauline Tallen, former Minister of Women Affairs and FDGF Board of Trustees member, also attended and commended the forum’s impartial approach and dedication to inclusive governance.
“Our solidarity is rooted in common objectives rather than political loyalties. Our duty is to support the government when it pursues beneficial policies and to ensure these policies meet the needs of the people,” she explained.
Tallen further underscored the importance of women’s active involvement within the forum and the broader national discourse.
Comprising members from all six geopolitical zones, the Former Deputy Governors Forum brings together a wealth of political insight and experience.
As Nigeria faces intricate socio-economic challenges, the forum reaffirms its commitment to serving as a non-partisan advisory body, a policy think tank, and a crucial bridge between the government and its citizens.
