Gilberto Silva, the celebrated Brazilian football icon, is convinced that Chelsea boasts a young talent with the potential to become the greatest footballer worldwide.
The former Arsenal midfielder has expressed strong support for Chelsea’s promising Brazilian midfielder, Estevão Willian, predicting a stellar future for the 18-year-old.
In 2024, Chelsea secured Estevão’s signature amid fierce interest from top clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
BrazilEstevão transferred to Chelsea from Palmeiras this summer for a £29 million fee and has quickly demonstrated his impact by netting the decisive goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool. He further impressed by scoring twice in Brazil’s commanding 5-0 friendly triumph against South Korea.
Having known Estevão since his early days, Gilberto Silva shared his optimistic outlook with Metro Sport.
“He possesses immense talent and I am confident he will rise to the top echelon of football,” Gilberto remarked.
“I have watched him grow since his childhood in Belo Horizonte, starting at Cruzeiro. His move to Palmeiras saw him rapidly enhance his technique, physicality, and overall game intelligence,” Gilberto added.
The World Cup champion is convinced Estevão has the qualities to become a global football icon.
“He’s destined to be an elite player, not just for Chelsea but on the world stage,” he stated.
“In Belo Horizonte, he stood out so much that fans nicknamed him ‘Messinho’ as a nod to Messi, though I prefer to appreciate his unique style without comparisons.”
Estevão joins the ranks of recent teenage sensations like Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, and Lamine Yamal, who have all made significant impacts early in their careers.
Chelsea fans eagerly anticipate that this young prodigy will evolve into their next global superstar.
