Gerrard Shuts Door on Rangers Return: Confirms He’s Not Coming Back as Coach

Steven Gerrard, the ex-Liverpool midfielder, has officially ruled out the possibility of returning to manage Rangers for a second tenure, as reported on Saturday.

At 45 years old, Gerrard was widely viewed as the frontrunner to replace Russell Martin, who was recently relieved of his duties as manager of the Scottish Premiership side.

Despite engaging in constructive talks, the former England international decided that now is not the right time for him to resume his role at Ibrox Stadium.

Martin’s stint with Rangers was short-lived, ending after just four months, during which the team secured only one win in their opening seven league matches.

Gerrard’s initial managerial period at Rangers lasted from 2018 until 2021, during which he led the club to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 season before moving on to manage Aston Villa.

Earlier this year, in January, he parted ways with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq.

Other names linked with the Rangers managerial vacancy include Derek McInnes, currently at the helm of Hearts, former Rangers defender Kevin Muscat, and Sean Dyche, who previously managed Everton.
