Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, a 52-year-old entrepreneur, was apprehended by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano. Following several days of medical observation, authorities successfully extracted 127 wraps of cocaine that had been internally concealed within his body.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Ejiofor, who owns retail outlets in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was detained upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. His arrest was the result of actionable intelligence received by the agency.
Medical examinations revealed that Ejiofor had swallowed narcotics and also concealed some within his private parts. Initially, 58 wraps of cocaine were discovered in his clothing. Under strict medical supervision, he later expelled an additional 69 pellets, totaling 127 wraps weighing approximately 1.388 kilograms of the illicit substance.
In a related crackdown, NDLEA operatives intercepted three drug shipments destined for the United Kingdom at a Lagos courier facility on October 9 and 10. One package cleverly concealed 1.74 kg of methamphetamine inside glass ceramic blocks. Another shipment contained 114 grams of pentazocine and 168 grams of tramadol injections, while a third parcel hid 48 grams of tramadol capsules within a Vitamin C container. All were intended for the UK market. Additional seizures included 2.6 kg of skunk cannabis and 422 grams of tapentadol 250mg disguised as black soap tablets bound for Turkey; 169 grams of cocaine hidden in women’s handbags destined for Australia; and 568 grams of Loud cannabis concealed within herbal containers en route to the United Arab Emirates, all intercepted at various Lagos courier centers.
Furthermore, NDLEA officials confiscated 27,510 rohypnol tablets concealed inside sachets of alcoholic beverages intended for export to South Africa at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) export section in Ikeja, Lagos. Following the arrest of a freight handler and a taxi driver linked to the shipment, a subsequent operation at Oyingbo market led to the capture of the ringleader, 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, known as “Yellow,” on October 2.
On the same day, operatives detained Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, an entrepreneur based in Italy, as he attempted to smuggle 3,700 tramadol 225mg tablets and 2,600 tapentadol 200mg tablets hidden inside food items destined for Europe. He admitted to trafficking the opioids on behalf of a third party for a payment of €945.
In Edo State, a raid at the residence of Emmanuel Sunday, 33, in Ugbekpe Ekperi, Etsako Central LGA, uncovered 47 kg of skunk cannabis. Meanwhile, in Osun State, two suspects-Nureni Ayobami Eleweodo, 48, and Oladejo Taiwo, 52-were arrested on October 8 at Omifufun village, Ife South LGA, after authorities seized 635 kilograms of skunk from their Toyota Hiace bus (registration DDA65ZY). At the same location, Timothy Omiwole, 41, and Isaac Achiatan, 36, were also detained with 100 kg of skunk and a motorcycle.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Okoro Julius, 20, and Onyebuchi Nwibo, 25, were separately arrested in connection with the seizure of 8.5 kg of skunk on October 10. Additionally, Sulaiman Kalalu, 46, was apprehended in Katsina State’s Bayan Asiti area on October 11 after 29.5 kg of the same drug was found in his home.
NDLEA operatives in Niger State arrested Yisa Daniel, 29, on October 8 at New Bussa, recovering 22,000 tramadol capsules, 800 pentazocine injection ampoules, and 150,000 exol-5 pills. In Ondo State, 312 kg of skunk was discovered in a bush at Ologede camp, Ogbese. On October 9, two suspects, Francis John, 39, and Adeyemi Taiwo, 46, were intercepted on the Benin-Lagos expressway transporting 141.8 kg of skunk in a vehicle.
In Kaduna State, Rufai Ahmed, 27, also known as Farin Malam, was arrested at the Abuja/Kaduna toll gate while carrying 150,000 exol-5 pills from Lagos to Katsina.
Throughout Nigeria, NDLEA commands have intensified their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns, conducting awareness programs in schools, religious centers, workplaces, and local communities. Recent outreach initiatives include sessions at General Murtala Mohammed College in Yola, Adamawa State; Assembly of God Secondary School in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State; Community Girls Secondary School in Bakori, Katsina State; Girls Secondary School in Nenwe, Awgu LGA, Enugu State; Day Secondary School in Tungan Mallam, Paikoro LGA, Niger State; Sacred Heart Secondary School in Kabba, Kogi State; Ebenezer Model Secondary School in Onitsha, Anambra State; Government Secondary School in Borikiri, Rivers State; Government Junior Secondary School in Wakili Bawa, Ungoggo LGA, Kano State; and Baptist High School in Ede, Osun State.
