Gernot Rohr has cautioned Nigeria’s Super Eagles, emphasizing that his Benin Republic team boasts significant experience in away matches and will not be daunted by the Uyo stadium atmosphere.
As the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria nears, Rohr pointed out that his squad’s extensive experience playing exclusively on the road has prepared them well to handle the pressures of the hostile Uyo environment.
In his pre-match briefing, the German coach revealed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has prohibited Benin from hosting any qualifiers on home soil, compelling the team to contest all their fixtures away from home.
Currently topping Group C with 17 points, Benin Republic needs only to avoid defeat against Nigeria to secure direct qualification for the World Cup.
Rohr expressed confidence in achieving a historic victory on Nigerian turf and urged his players to maintain composure and concentration throughout the encounter.

“Our goal is to leave with a victory, but we understand the need for patience. Nigeria must win to keep their World Cup hopes alive, so I expect a fiercely competitive and open match,” Rohr stated.
“Having played every qualifier away from home, without the advantage of a home crowd, we have grown skilled at navigating the difficulties of away games, including high-stakes clashes like the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” he added.
Highlighting his team’s toughness, Rohr remarked, “Our recent match in Libya presented unique challenges. Nigeria witnessed firsthand the hurdles we faced there, yet we managed to secure a win despite the hostile conditions.”
For Nigeria to advance to the 2026 World Cup, the Super Eagles must triumph by at least a two-goal margin.
