🇲🇬 A specialized military faction in Madagascar, known as CAPSAT, declared on Tuesday that it has assumed control of the island nation in the Indian Ocean. This move came shortly after the national assembly voted to remove President Andry Rajoelina from office amid several weeks of widespread anti-government demonstrations.
🪖 Colonel Michael Randrianirina, the leader of CAPSAT, delivered a proclamation at the presidential residence, announcing the suspension of the constitution. He further revealed plans to establish a ruling council made up of representatives from the army, gendarmerie, and national police forces.
🎉 Following the declaration, CAPSAT troops paraded through the streets of the capital, greeted by enthusiastic crowds who lined the sidewalks, cheering and waving flags. Many supporters joined the procession in their vehicles, sounding horns in a celebratory procession through a city still fraught with tension.
