“It’s certainly a letdown. We have to fully utilize the talent at our disposal. I’m looking forward to the playoffs. Encounters with Gabon and Cameroon will be fiercely competitive. These matchups rank among the most captivating rivalries in African football,” Ikpeba shared, as covered by Complete Sports.

Ikpeba, a member of Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON-winning squad, underscored the difficulty of the upcoming clashes, especially against Africa’s top-tier teams.

“The clash with Cameroon will be another stern test, a battle that demands everything. The playoff round is far from an easy path,” he added.

Despite the hurdles, the former African Footballer of the Year remains optimistic that Nigeria’s grit and resolve will see them through to the World Cup.

“I wish the team all the best. If they maintain the right attitude, I’m confident they can achieve success,” Ikpeba concluded.

Nigeria is slated to meet Gabon in the playoff semi-final, while Cameroon will face off against DR Congo in the other semi-final encounter.

The playoff showdown is set to unfold in Morocco from November 13 to 16, 2025, with the victorious team advancing to the intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 2026 in North America.
