President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Super Eagles for keeping Nigeria’s aspirations alive in the race to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On Tuesday afternoon at Uyo’s Godwin Abakpa Stadium, the Nigerian squad showcased a dominant performance, defeating the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs with a resounding 4-0 scoreline.
Victor Osimhen was the star of the match, netting a remarkable hat-trick, while Frank Onyeka contributed a crucial goal to complete the emphatic victory.
This triumph secures Nigeria’s advancement to the African playoff round, preserving their hopes of World Cup participation.

Following this victory, Nigeria advances to the CAF playoff phase, where they will compete against the three best runners-up from the nine qualifying groups.
The playoff will follow a knockout format, with the winner advancing to the FIFA inter-confederation playoffs, which represents the final chance to clinch a World Cup berth.
This critical CAF playoff stage is scheduled to be held in Morocco from November 10 through 18.
