The Special Foundation has made remarkable progress in enhancing educational access by providing learning programs and mentorship to upwards of 24,500 children. Their efforts focus on bridging educational gaps and inspiring future success among underserved populations.
In its 2025 summer school campaign, the foundation engaged young learners across 14 centers located in economically disadvantaged regions spanning nine different states.
Seyi Akinwale, the visionary behind the Special Foundation, explained that the initiative was crafted to keep children actively involved during the long holiday break by offering educational resources, mentorship, and creative activities, thereby encouraging continuous growth beyond the standard school calendar.
“This year, our program has empowered more than 24,500 children-from out-of-school youths in Minna, Niger State, who gained skills in tailoring and shoemaking, to students in Nekede LGA, Owerri, Imo State, who explored innovations in solar energy,” Akinwale remarked.
He underscored that the foundation’s core mission to nurture Africa’s future leaders remains the cornerstone of all its initiatives and partnerships.
Furthermore, this shared vision has inspired volunteers, nonprofits, and corporate allies to dedicate their time and resources toward creating impactful opportunities for children in marginalized communities.
“Our unwavering aim is to cultivate a generation of young African leaders through education and opportunity. The 2025 Special Summer School alone has reached over 24,500 children across nine states and 14 centers. Looking forward, we intend to expand our footprint to 15 states next year, amplifying our impact and reaching even more youths,” Akinwale added.
“Working within economically challenged areas, we are committed to ensuring every child is supported. Our summer school curriculum is carefully designed to provide practical vocational skills while igniting a genuine passion for learning,” he emphasized.
A powerful testament to the foundation’s mentorship impact comes from Kaduna State, where Brave Sunday, once shy and withdrawn, has blossomed into a confident young woman with aspirations to one day be addressed as ‘Her Excellency.’
Her journey reflects the transformative effect of the summer school program, which strives to expand access to quality education for disadvantaged children throughout Africa.
Alongside scholarships, mentorship, and improvements to school facilities, the program exemplifies the foundation’s dedication to fostering inclusive educational spaces that cultivate talent and inspire hope.
Now in its eighth year, the initiative has equipped participants with vital literacy, numeracy, and vocational competencies, while also promoting creativity, self-esteem, and teamwork.
This success is driven by a collaborative network of volunteers, educators, and corporate sponsors such as Bluechip Technologies, Credit Direct Limited, Descasio, Duale, Ovia & Alex-Adedipe Law, Macadams Baking Systems Nigeria Limited, De Miller Farms, UAC Foods, and Nigerian Bottling Company, supported by over 423 young professionals from these organizations.
Children engaged in interactive lessons, extracurricular programs, and received essential back-to-school materials, all designed to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning atmosphere.
At the Ikota-Lagos center, teenage volunteers from the Rockstars at Kindness nonprofit revitalized two classrooms with fresh coats of paint, transforming the spaces into more lively and welcoming environments for students.
Meanwhile, at the Makoko center, the Macadams Baking Systems team led a week-long practical workshop, motivating 100 participants through hands-on baking sessions utilizing state-of-the-art equipment.
