Luigi Turci, ex-goalkeeping coach at AC Milan, has expressed confidence that Maduka Okoye will swiftly reclaim his position as Udinese‘s starting goalkeeper following the completion of his two-month suspension related to betting violations.
Since joining Udinese from Watford in the summer of 2023, Okoye has been instrumental in revitalizing his career within the Italian league.
Nevertheless, he was handed a two-month suspension after being found guilty of involvement in illegal betting activities.
Having served his ban, the Nigerian international goalkeeper is anticipated to resume his role between the sticks for Udinese’s first Serie A fixture following the international break.
Turci Predicts Okoye’s Swift Reintegration into Udinese’s Lineup
Having once represented Udinese himself, Turci is convinced that Okoye will return with renewed determination to reclaim his status as the club’s primary goalkeeper.
“We are likely to witness a transformed player. He will be eager to restore trust and respect from his teammates and fans,” Turci remarked, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
“Although he might initially lack match fitness, his passion and focus will more than make up for it.”
Turci also emphasized the trust placed in Okoye by Udinese’s head coach, Kosta Runjaic, suggesting that the 26-year-old will be reinstated promptly.
He added, “Runjaic has consistently backed him as the first-choice keeper. His stand-in, Marco Silvestri, hasn’t quite matched expectations during Okoye’s absence.”
This endorsement highlights the stability Okoye’s return is expected to bring to Udinese’s defensive line.
