Michael Nsien, the former LA Galaxy defender, has once again expressed his strong desire to become the head coach of the Super Eagles, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
Drawing on his extensive understanding of Nigerian football culture and his international coaching experience, Nsien believes he is uniquely qualified to instill much-needed discipline and structure within the national team.
With Nigerian roots through his parents, Nsien has consistently demonstrated a heartfelt commitment to nurturing the growth and success of Nigeria’s football landscape.

Michael Nsien Shares His Strategic Vision for the Super Eagles
In a recent conversation, the 44-year-old coach underscored the critical need for a robust and well-organized framework to propel the national team forward, highlighting his personal ties to Nigeria as a driving force behind his ambition.
“As someone deeply connected to Nigeria through my heritage, I feel a profound responsibility towards the nation,” Nsien told RG. “I am confident that my leadership can introduce the stability and strategic planning that have been missing. By embracing Nigeria’s unique identity and potential, I aim to strike the perfect balance for success.”
This declaration comes amid mounting dissatisfaction from fans regarding the current Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, even though the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has recently reiterated its backing of Chelle.

The NFF’s endorsement of Chelle followed Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup playoff stage, where they are set to compete against Gabon, with a possible subsequent clash against either DR Congo or Cameroon.

Nsien’s Perspective on Challenges Facing the Super Eagles
In an earlier interview with Daily Trust, the Tulsa-born coach highlighted that Nigeria’s challenges go beyond just identifying gifted players, stressing the importance of long-term development strategies.
“Nigeria boasts an abundance of talent, yet the team’s results have not reflected this potential. By examining the players’ journeys, I am motivated to help build a solid foundation starting from youth levels,” Nsien explained.

Further elaborating to Soccernet.ng, Nsien stated:
“I have a clear understanding of where Nigerian football currently stands and the areas that require improvement. I am ready to close these gaps and elevate the team to its deserved status on the international stage.”
While Nsien’s renewed interest in leading the Super Eagles could spark discussions within the NFF, it seems probable that Eric Chelle will continue in his role until his contract expires following the upcoming AFCON tournament.
