Benin Coach Ouzerou Issues Bold Challenge to Nigeria: “We Fear No One, Not Even the Super Falcons” Ahead of WAFCON Qualifiers

Benin’s Head Coach Ouzerou Shares Insights Ahead of Crucial WAFCON Qualifiers Versus Nigeria

Abdoulaye Ouzerou, the mastermind behind the Benin Republic women’s national team, famously known as the Amazons, has voiced optimism as they gear up to confront Nigeria’s formidable Super Falcons in the critical qualifying round for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

This decisive playoff will be contested over two legs, with the first encounter scheduled for this Thursday at Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo, where the Benin Amazons will face the reigning champions.

The return fixture is set for Tuesday, October 28, at the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Nigeria, promising a high-stakes showdown.

Coach Ouzerou’s Outlook

Upon revealing his squad for this vital clash, Ouzerou openly recognized Nigeria’s edge in physicality and technical skill. Nevertheless, he highlighted that the Amazons’ determination and collective spirit will be pivotal in their quest to challenge the favorites.

“When physical and technical gaps exist, mental toughness becomes the cornerstone. I am confident my players possess the psychological readiness needed, and that will underpin our strategy,” Ouzerou remarked.

On the other side, the Super Falcons, led by coach Justin Madugu, are determined to clinch their 15th straight WAFCON qualification and defend the title they secured in Morocco.

For Benin, this qualifier is more than just a match-it’s a landmark chance to debut at the continental level by overcoming Africa’s most successful women’s football team.

Preparations for Nigeria’s squad commenced on Monday, with eight players already gathered in training camp, setting the stage for an intense battle ahead.
