Sevilla is reportedly preparing to strengthen their attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window by targeting Nigerian forward Sadiq Umar. The club aims to create healthy competition alongside Akor Adams in their forward line.
Currently, Sadiq has found it challenging to break into the first team at Real Sociedad, having made only two substitute appearances this season.
Once regarded as one of Spain’s emerging striking talents, the 28-year-old’s progress was significantly hindered by a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained three years ago.
Due to his scarce playing time, Sevilla is considering the possibility of signing Sadiq to form a Nigerian attacking partnership.
Sevilla Sets Sights on Sadiq Umar
In pursuit of bolstering their offensive firepower, Sevilla is actively scouting for a dependable goal scorer to complement their existing forwards. While Akor Adams and Isaac Romero have shown promise, the club is eager to secure a more consistent attacking presence.
So far this season, Adams has recorded two goals and one assist in seven appearances, whereas Romero has found the net three times in eight matches.
Reports from Vamos Mi Sevilla indicate that the Andalusian side has identified Sadiq Umar of Real Sociedad as a strong candidate to reinforce their attack.
During his loan spell at Valencia last season, Umar demonstrated flashes of his former ability by scoring five goals in 16 La Liga appearances.
Despite limited minutes, Umar remains one of the better-paid players at Real Sociedad, which could make the club amenable to transfer discussions.
With his contract running through 2028, a move might benefit both the player seeking more game time and the club looking to optimize their squad.
If the deal materializes, Umar would join fellow Nigerians Akor Adams and winger Chidera Ejuke, marking the third Nigerian to don the Sevilla jersey.
