In the recent summer transfer window, Paul Onuachu completed a permanent switch to Trabzonspor from Southampton…
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu attracted significant interest from Dutch Eredivisie powerhouse PSV Eindhoven last summer, but the transfer ultimately did not materialize, according to reports from Soccernet.ng.
Onuachu’s transfer saga was eventful. After Southampton’s drop from the Premier League, speculation mounted that the Nigerian forward would seek a new club.
Having impressed during a previous loan stint, Trabzonspor quickly became the leading candidate to secure his services on a permanent basis.

Despite initial hurdles, mainly due to Southampton’s high valuation, Trabzonspor eventually finalized the transfer.
This acquisition has paid dividends, with Onuachu quickly establishing himself as a vital asset, netting seven goals in just nine appearances in the Super Lig.
However, Trabzonspor nearly lost their star striker. According to Transfer Watcher, PSV Eindhoven’s sporting director, Earnest Stewart, seriously contemplated bringing Onuachu to the Netherlands, but the move fell through.

Onuachu’s preference to rejoin Trabzonspor was a decisive factor in PSV’s withdrawal, leading the Dutch club to sign Dennis Man from Parma as an alternative.
Onuachu Leads the Turkish Super Lig Scoring Charts
At present, Paul Onuachu tops the goal-scoring leaderboard in the Turkish Super Lig, having scored seven goals in nine outings for Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor currently sit second in the league table, trailing leaders Galatasaray by five points. With Onuachu’s remarkable scoring streak, the club is buoyant about their prospects of mounting a strong title challenge this season.
Although Trabzonspor last lifted the league trophy three years ago, Onuachu’s presence has rekindled ambitions of reclaiming the championship crown.
