Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi was on the scoresheet for Besiktas against Konyaspor

Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi scored his first goal for Beşiktaş as the Turkish giants defeated Konyaspor 2-0 in their rescheduled Super Lig clash.

The Nigerian midfielder’s opener set the tone for a composed performance that saw former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham silence his doubters with a clinical second-half strike.

Ndidi breaks his duck in Beşiktaş colours

After a few weeks adapting to life in Istanbul, Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi finally announced himself in style.

The 27-year-old midfielder, known more for his defensive discipline than his goals, rose highest in the 20th minute to meet Orkun Kökçü’s corner and nod Beşiktaş into the lead. It was his first goal since leaving Leicester City in the summer.

Konyaspor had their moments, most notably through Umut Nayir, but goalkeeper Ersin Destanoğlu was alert to preserve Beşiktaş’s advantage. From there, the home side took control, dictating the tempo and frustrating the visitors with their structure and energy.

Abraham delivers the perfect response to critics

Tammy Abraham, who had been under scrutiny since his summer arrival, chose the perfect moment to respond to his critics.

In the 73rd minute, Ndidi started a swift counterattack, releasing Milot Rashica, whose perfectly weighted pass found Abraham racing in behind. As goalkeeper Deniz hesitated on the edge of his box, Abraham pounced, calmly rolling the ball into the empty net to double Beşiktaş’s lead.

The English forward nearly grabbed a second late on, but VAR ruled out his goal for a handball in the build-up. Still, his performance, which was full of confidence, was a statement to those who questioned why Beşiktaş signed him instead of Paul Onuachu.

The victory lifted Beşiktaş to 16 points and reignited belief that their new-look team, led by Ndidi and Abraham, could push them back into title contention.
