The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has dismissed Barcelona‘s request to overturn Hansi Flick‘s red card.
Hansi Flick, the head coach of Barcelona, will be sidelined for the upcoming El Clásico after the RFEF denied the club’s appeal against his dismissal during the recent match.
Details of Flick’s Dismissal
According to reports from Pulse Sports, the German manager was shown two yellow cards in quick succession late in Barcelona’s win over Girona, resulting in his expulsion and forcing him to watch the remainder of the game from the tunnel.
This red card automatically ruled Flick out of the next La Liga fixture against Real Madrid. Despite this, Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta criticized referee Jesús Gil Manzano and announced plans to challenge the decision.
Nevertheless, Laporta expressed doubts about the success of the appeal, indicating a cautious outlook on the outcome.
RFEF Upholds the Suspension
The disciplinary panel of the RFEF has officially rejected Barcelona’s appeal, confirming that there was no evidence to dispute the referee’s version of events.
The ruling stated, “The appeal to annul the double yellow card must be denied, and therefore, the disciplinary measures resulting from Mr. Hans-Dieter Flick’s expulsion will remain in effect, including the mandatory one-match suspension as outlined in Article 120 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, along with the applicable fines under Article 52,” as reported by AS.
As a result, assistant coach Marcus Sorg will take charge from the sidelines during Sunday’s El Clásico at the renovated Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
