John Mikel Obi, former captain of the Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, shares his top guest pick from the Obi One podcast
John Mikel Obi, the celebrated Nigerian footballer, has disclosed his favourite guest on his acclaimed show, The Obi One Podcast. Interestingly, the Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite his rising international profile, did not make Mikel’s top choice.
Having hosted a remarkable array of football legends, Mikel highlighted two former Chelsea teammates as his most memorable interviewees.
Chelsea legends dominate Mikel’s favourite guest list
During a recent discussion, the ex-Chelsea and Nigerian midfielder reflected on his podcast experiences, revealing that although many guests left a lasting impression, two stood out distinctly.
“José Mourinho was one of my best guests. He brought incredible insights and we had a fantastic dialogue. Also, John Terry, who was actually my very first guest. So for me, it’s definitely José Mourinho and John Terry,” Mikel shared candidly.
This announcement surprised many fans who anticipated Victor Osimhen to be among Mikel’s favourites, especially after the striker’s engaging episode on the show.
Mikel’s strong ties with Mourinho and Terry stem from their pivotal roles during his Chelsea tenure, where he spent over ten years, securing two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the 2012 Champions League, and the 2013 Europa League.
Their intertwined history sheds light on Mikel’s admiration. Mourinho was the manager who signed him to Stamford Bridge in 2006, while Terry captained the team throughout most of Mikel’s career at the club.
