Nigerian hip-hop figure Erigga recently shared his perspective on the intensifying feud between rappers Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez, emphasizing that while such rivalries attract attention, they ultimately detract from the authenticity and growth of the Nigerian hip-hop community.
During an open conversation on Yanga 89.9 FM, which was later circulated online on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Erigga highlighted that although clashes between artists often stir excitement, they seldom foster meaningful progress within the Nigerian hip-hop scene.
“These disputes may grab eyeballs, but they don’t cultivate the culture,” Erigga stated. He noted that the public’s intrigue is driven more by the drama than a genuine appreciation for the music itself.
“Listeners are drawn not because they love hip-hop, but because they’re entertained by the confrontation between two artists,” he explained. Erigga further observed that fans are quick to engage during moments of conflict but frequently ignore instances of collaboration and advancement in the industry.
Clarifying his viewpoint, Erigga made it clear that he does not side with either Odumodublvck or Blaqbonez personally, saying, “Neither Odumodu nor Black is a close associate of mine,” stressing that his critique targets the wider consequences of the rivalry rather than the individuals involved.
He concluded by urging both supporters and industry stakeholders to redirect their attention from lyrical disputes toward initiatives that genuinely strengthen Nigerian hip-hop. “To truly understand this genre, one must look beyond the surface-level battles-they represent more than just words and tracks,” he remarked.
The ongoing tension between Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez has sparked extensive conversations online, fueling debates about whether such rap confrontations act as a driving force for innovation or pose a setback to the Nigerian music industry.
