Erigga discussing relationships” border=”0″ />Renowned rapper Erigga has voiced concerns over how internet scammers, commonly referred to as Yahoo boys, have influenced the dynamics of romantic relationships in Nigeria today.
In a recent conversation with Yanga FM Lagos, Erigga highlighted that the lavish spending habits of these fraudsters on women have set unrealistic expectations, making it challenging for ordinary men-who lack such financial means-to sustain meaningful relationships with women accustomed to such extravagance.
He expressed regret over the decline of authentic love in Nigerian society, attributing it to many men equating their worth solely with monetary wealth, while numerous women engage in relationships driven more by financial necessity than genuine affection.
“Yahoo boys have essentially destroyed romance. True love seems almost extinct. When was the last time you saw a couple openly holding hands in public? It’s been ages. The root issue is that we’re nurturing men who believe their value is measured only by their bank accounts,” he lamented.
“Relationships today have become costly affairs. Back in the day, simple gestures like sharing a meat pie or a soft drink from Mr Biggs were enough, and women appreciated those moments. But men also bear responsibility-these fragile men set high financial standards, which women then expect and uphold.”
Erigga encouraged men to cultivate qualities beyond financial capability in their relationships. He emphasized that emotional maturity and interpersonal skills can create deeper connections and attract genuine interest from women, rather than relying solely on displays of wealth.
