Cassava Scores Strategic Investment from NVIDIA to Power Future Growth

Cassava Technologies, a leading pan-African technology firm with a footprint spanning the continent, has attracted a strategic investment from U.S.-based semiconductor giant NVIDIA. This partnership highlights the increasing alignment between Africa’s ambitions to enhance its digital infrastructure and the global surge in artificial intelligence advancements.

The infusion of capital will be directed towards bolstering Cassava’s operations not only across Africa but also in the Middle East and Latin America. The funding aims to accelerate the growth of the company’s data center network, cloud computing platforms, and digital service offerings, all designed to narrow the continent’s digital gap.

Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, emphasized the significance of this investment, stating, “This funding milestone is pivotal for unlocking further value and propelling the expansion of our digital infrastructure and services, which are essential to bridging the digital divide throughout Africa.”

This collaboration represents a major step forward for Cassava, which has established itself as a fully integrated player across multiple sectors including cloud services, connectivity, fintech, and AI. Earlier this year, Bloomberg revealed that the company intends to invest up to $720 million in Africa’s inaugural AI manufacturing facility, to be developed in partnership with NVIDIA.

Cassava Technologies manages a broad spectrum of tech enterprises that collectively form a vertically integrated digital ecosystem. Its core subsidiaries-Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Africa Data Centres, Liquid C2, Cassava.ai, and Sasai Fintech-deliver high-speed internet connectivity, cloud and cybersecurity solutions, AI platforms, and financial technology services. These offerings empower businesses, governments, and consumers in 94 countries, fostering digital transformation and inclusive economic progress.

NVIDIA’s investment also signals its growing commitment to Africa’s evolving data and AI landscape. As the demand for AI computational power intensifies, Africa’s developing data infrastructure, spearheaded by companies like Cassava, presents a strategic opportunity to localize processing capabilities and cultivate indigenous AI expertise.

This deal adds NVIDIA to an impressive list of Cassava’s global and regional backers, which includes Econet Group, British International Investment, DFC, Finnfund, the Fund for Export Development in Africa (Afreximbank/FEDA), Gateway Capital, Google LLC, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Public Investment Corporation, and Royal Bafokeng Holdings.
