A confidential document has uncovered the probable origin of the fatberg formations that caused multiple Sydney beaches to close last summer-most of which originated from the Malabar deepwater ocean outfall.
The partially censored scientific analysis, obtained through freedom of information requests, identifies a mix of heavy precipitation and the accumulation of fats, oils, and grease as the primary factors behind the discharge of these “fat balls” from the outfalls at Malabar, Bondi, and North Head.
