The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently detained Lagos socialite Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, who owns Proxy Night Club. The arrest took place during a late-night raid on a gathering described by the agency as a ‘drug party’ with over 100 attendees.
This information was made public in a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
“In the early hours of Sunday, October 26, NDLEA operatives conducted a raid at Proxy Night Club, situated at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, where an illegal drug-fueled event was ongoing. More than 100 individuals, including the club’s proprietor, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, aka Pretty Mike, were taken into custody for further inquiries,” the statement detailed.
“The operation led to the seizure of significant amounts of illicit substances such as Loud cannabis and nitrous oxide (commonly referred to as laughing gas), confiscated from both party participants and the club’s storage,” the agency added.
The raid was initiated following intelligence reports about illicit drug dealings at the venue. NDLEA operatives had been monitoring the location covertly from 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, before launching the intervention around 3 a.m. the next day.
The agency confirmed that the operation was conducted in full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all those detained are currently undergoing thorough screening to determine their level of involvement.
Major Cocaine Busts at Nigerian Airports
In a related crackdown, NDLEA officials at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) uncovered 70 packets of cocaine cleverly concealed within containers of cocoa butter body cream destined for London, UK.
Weighing a total of 3.60 kilograms, the narcotics were discovered on October 14 during a routine cargo inspection of items declared as personal effects on an Air Peace flight heading to London.
Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, a cargo handler who presented the shipment for air transport, was immediately arrested. Further investigations led to the apprehension of two additional suspects: Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, CEO of Mutiu Adebayo & Co Travel Agency, both implicated in the smuggling operation.
- At Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu, NDLEA agents intercepted Lemena Mark, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, attempting to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a herbal coffee tea package bound for the Philippines.
- In Kwara State, Umar Abubakar, aged 40, was caught with 21,950 tramadol capsules (250mg) concealed inside a 100-litre water heater in Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area.
- Taraba State officers apprehended Auwal Musa (26) and Salihu Bala (22) at the Dan-anacha checkpoint while transporting 450,000 tramadol and Exol-5 pills from Onitsha, Anambra, to Mubi, Adamawa.
- Patrols along the Okene-Lokoja Highway in Kogi State led to the seizure of 162.2 kilograms of cannabis, while 128 kilograms were confiscated from Abubakar Muhammad (55) in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
- In Lagos, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, a mother of two and a key distributor of Canadian and California Loud across Lekki, Ajah, Ikoyi, and Victoria Island, was arrested on October 17 with 500 grams of the banned substance at her Lekki residence.
Widespread Drug Confiscations Across the Country
NDLEA operatives in Ikorodu, Lagos, seized 275 litres of “skuchies,” a dangerous mixture combining blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids.
- In Abia State, a 75-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were arrested with 4.7 kilograms and 225 grams of cannabis, respectively.
- Separate operations in Ondo and Kaduna States resulted in the confiscation of a combined total of 384.5 kilograms of skunk cannabis.
- At the Seme Border in Lagos, NDLEA intercepted 55 kilograms of skunk and 121.3 litres of skuchies from suspects attempting to smuggle these substances.
- In Zamfara State, Abubakar Ibrahim (30) was detained with an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of ammunition while allegedly transporting the weapons from Sokoto to Bagega forest in Anka Local Government Area.
Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, commended the unwavering commitment of agency personnel and officers from MMIA, AIIA, Lagos, Kwara, Abia, Nasarawa, Kogi, Ondo, Anambra, Taraba, Kaduna, Seme, and Zamfara commands. He urged them to maintain their steadfast dedication in the ongoing nationwide fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
