The digital environment surrounding TikTok in Nigeria is undergoing significant change as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) intensifies its regulatory oversight over the platform’s activities within the nation.

Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of NITDA, openly voiced concerns about the platform’s extensive consumption of young Nigerians’ time. While TikTok has undeniably created avenues for fame and financial gain, it is also viewed as a potential distraction from more productive pursuits.

NITDA is pushing for a governance model where Nigeria itself sets the standards for TikTok’s local content moderation and trends, rather than deferring to decisions made in Silicon Valley or Beijing. This move is part of a larger governmental goal to achieve “digital sovereignty.”

At present, Nigeria enforces a social media code of practice requiring platforms to remove flagged content within 24 hours. TikTok, which removed over 7.5 million videos in Nigeria during the first half of 2025, may soon face even more rigorous regulatory measures.

AI Meets Faith: Nigerian Churches Embrace Technology

Artificial intelligence is carving out a new role within Nigeria’s religious circles, stirring both excitement and thoughtful discussion.

From the bustling streets of Lagos to the historic city of Ibadan, numerous pastors are leveraging ChatGPT to craft sermons, coordinate church programs, and even compose spiritual literature. This trend echoes past technological shifts-from the advent of the printing press to the rise of radio-that have historically amplified religious outreach.

Yet, some faith leaders warn that while AI can offer structure and information, it cannot replicate the heartfelt emotion and spiritual fervor that human ministers provide. There is also apprehension that congregants using AI to fact-check sermons might diminish the personal and spiritual investment essential to nurturing authentic faith.

Will AI become a vital partner in disseminating religious teachings, or might it risk eroding the essence of spiritual connection?

X.com to Replace Twitter.com Domain

The iconic Twitter.com domain is set to be retired as Elon Musk’s rebranded social media platform, X, plans to fully migrate users to X.com by November 10, 2025.

This transition is especially critical for users who secure their accounts with hardware security keys or Passkeys, as these credentials are currently tied to the twitter.com domain. To avoid losing access, users must update their security keys to the new X.com domain via their account settings before the deadline.

Failure to complete this update will invalidate these security keys, potentially locking users out of their accounts. Users relying on authenticator apps or SMS-based two-factor authentication will not be affected by this change.

X has clarified that this update is a standard technical migration and not a response to any security incident.
