PTML Customs Seizes N200m Worth of Unregistered Drugs, Nearly Hits 2024 Revenue Target in Just 9 Months!

PTML Customs intercepts N200m unregistered drugs, nearly matches 2024 revenue in 9 months

The Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service recently intercepted two shipments containing unregistered pharmaceutical products valued at approximately N200 million.

According to Comptroller Joe Anani, the newly appointed Area Controller, one container, which was falsely declared as carrying supermarket goods, was found to contain a variety of medications upon inspection. Another container, labeled as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment, was discovered to hold 6,262 cartons of antibiotics and other unregistered drugs.

Anani handed over the confiscated items to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), emphasizing that the Command remains steadfast in protecting national security and will not sacrifice it for the sake of facilitating trade.

In a related development, PTML reported a significant increase in revenue, collecting N350.3 billion from January to September 2025. This amount accounts for 96.6 percent of the total N362.5 billion collected throughout 2024, indicating that the Command is on track to exceed last year’s revenue before the end of the year.

He credited this growth to enhanced compliance measures, improved operational processes, and stronger collaboration among port stakeholders, despite initial challenges encountered with the new B’Odogwu platform.

Anani encouraged importers to adhere strictly to legal requirements, highlighting that compliance not only saves time and money but also fosters a positive reputation that supports business expansion.
