Tension erupted at the National Assembly as the Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, Hon. Oboku Oforji, ordered the arrest of Mr. Mufutau Bello, a Director from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), after he walked out during a probe session.
The dramatic moment unfolded when Bello demanded that journalists be excused from the room before discussions began. His request was firmly rejected by the Committee Chairman, leading to a heated exchange. In protest, Bello reportedly stormed out — a move that infuriated the lawmakers and prompted Oforji to issue an immediate arrest order.
The Committee had summoned JAMB to defend its 2023–2024 budget performance and provide details of its internally generated revenue, bank statements, and evidence of transfers to the Consolidated Revenue Fund. According to parliamentary records, the agency received three formal invitations — dated October 6, 17, and 23, 2025 — requesting the personal appearance of JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, along with the relevant financial documents.
However, instead of appearing in person, the Registrar delegated the responsibility to Bello, a decision that lawmakers considered disrespectful. The Committee insisted that the probe would continue until JAMB’s leadership provides full accountability and transparency regarding its financial operations.
Clips from the heated session have since gone viral, with Nigerians expressing mixed reactions — some praising the lawmakers for standing firm on transparency, while others criticized the arrest order as an overreaction.
