Kano Man, Idris Kurma Remanded For Allegedly Killing Wife Over Kuli-Kuli Dispute

A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Musa Dahiru has ordered the remand of a man, Idris Kurma, for allegedly killing his wife, Aisha Idris, following a domestic dispute over her refusal to grind groundnuts for kuli-kuli preparation.
The tragic incident reportedly took place in Goda village, located in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

Kurma was arraigned before the court on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code.

During Friday’s proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, read the charge to the defendant, who pleaded not guilty to the accusation. The prosecutor then sought an adjournment to enable the state to present its witnesses and evidence in the case.

Justice Dahiru granted the application and adjourned the matter to December 12, 2025, for the continuation of hearing, while ordering that the defendant be remanded in custody pending trial.

According to court documents, the accused allegedly attacked his wife during an argument after she refused to grind groundnuts to make kuli-kuli — a popular Northern Nigerian snack made from roasted groundnuts that are spiced, mashed, and deep-fried into crunchy pieces.

The case has drawn public attention in the state, with many residents condemning the incident and calling for justice for the late Aisha.
