Converse and Tyler, The Creator Unveil The 1908 Bronco Boot

Named for Converse’s founding year, the 1908 collection is a bridge between past and present. It’s a celebration of heritage through the lens of contemporary craft. Curated by Tyler, The Creator, the styles revived under the 1908 banner carry Converse’s history forward. The first chapter of 1908 reintroduced the Naut-1 and the Jogger to the world, bringing the brand’s deep roots in maritime and running design into focus. The next installment belongs to the 1908 Bronco Boot, a bold silhouette shaped in partnership with Tyler, The Creator, and steeped in more than a century of Converse bootmaking tradition.

Tyler engages the Converse Archive as an active studio where icons are reimagined and oddities find new purpose. The Converse 1908 Bronco Boot is a product of that curiosity and conviction. Keeping within the spirit of 1908, it carries the unmistakable language of Converse heritage, reinterpreted for a modern, forward-looking boot.

A molded rubber toe with diamond texture anchors the design, paired with a split upper that adds dimension. Underfoot, a bold lugged outsole gives the silhouette a confident stance, while the overall shape stays balanced and wearable. Every detail is considered and obsessed over—from the round laces and metal hardware to the faux welt with heavy stitching.

Premium materials, including leathers and suedes, bring depth and richness, finished in tones drawn from the le FLEUR* palette. Inside, padding at the collar and tongue helps deliver comfort that lasts, while the outsole’s step-off lug pattern provides a secure, grounded feel. Chuck DNA runs through the design in subtle ways—the familiar foxing, the way the upper breaks—but the 1908 Bronco Boot stands on its own as a silhouette that expands the Converse icon into familiar but uncharted territory.

Additional touches bring the collaboration into focus. The medial side of the 1908 Bronco Boot carries an original-art dog-motif patch, while the lateral side of the upper carries classic Converse All Star branding with le FLEUR* marks on the tongue.

A Heritage That Runs Deep

The 1908 Bronco Boot connects to a lineage that stretches back to Converse’s earliest years. Before basketball courts and skate parks, Converse was a rubber company making boots, waders, and outdoor footwear designed to protect and perform. That DNA carried through decades of innovation. The No-Bite Hunting Boot was a cornerstone from the 1920s through the late 1970s. The Lake Stream wading shoe that evolved into the Bosey Boot. Military-grade designs during World War II introduced bomber boots and experimental lacing systems. Later came industrial workwear boots, mountaineering-inspired silhouettes like the Mountain Club, and premium craft executions such as Made in Maine.

In the 1990s, Converse introduced the Mud Chunk, a sneaker-boot hybrid designed to “go anywhere, survive anything”—from the trail to the city—and the 1908 Bronco Boot’s most direct predecessor in spirit and proportion. With its molded rubber vamp, split upper, and aggressive lugged outsole, the Mud Chunk fused Chuck Taylor DNA with rugged utility. It reflected a cultural moment when outdoor performance crossed over into street style. The 1908 Bronco Boot draws from all of it and more. Its proportions echo the Mud Chunk’s bold stance, while its detailing reflects a century of craft and experimentation.
